An Encore Performance

As our faithful readers know, Elizabeth is our rep for Boyd. This is the last part of her senior session. We really got to play here. The cheerleading shot is a-mazing! And yes she really was jumping up in the air in front of that background. We didn’t cheat and take two photos and superimpose her into the background shot. Come on, how fun would THAT have been?

Elizabeth also brought in her prom dress from last year. This wasn’t a trash the dress session, just beautiful and elegant portraits. She looks very grown up in the photo of her standing, and like she’s playing dress-up in someone  else’s dress in the other. I think its great that Brad can create two different ‘feels’ with the same outfit!

In case you missed it, and really how COULD you!? Here is the first part of Elizabeth’s session with us. http://canslerblog.com/2010/05/european-tour/

Love the prom dress photos, the style of the dress goes with the building. Cool. How did you get the jumping image? She looks like she is ten feet in the air.

Elizabeth showed me photos of the dress and as soon as I saw them I loved the Spanish flair to it and thought this building would be the perfect setting. She looks like she is ten feet high because she was jumping off something about four feet high and combined with her amazing jump up she probably was at least 7 or 8 feet high! The interesting thing was she did the same precise jump 4 times in a row to make sure I got what I wanted.

You may remember Janet from the symphony portraits we did  recently. The guy you don’t recognize is her son, Adam. As you can see, he is also a musician. His instrument of choice is the guitar. We had fun creating the portraits for the CSO with Janet so she set up a session for and her son to do some non traditional publicity shots.

He and his mother play separately as well as performing together. I absolutely love the photo of Adam hugging his guitar. Its not a traditional pose but I feel that it truly expresses a musicians attachment to the profession and instrument.

Acting Out(siders)

Alex brought in an armload of props and cast shirts from all the plays he’s been in. We decided to use his cast t-shirt from ‘The Outsiders’ and use really dramatic lighting to get the melancholy feel of the book. With Alex getting into character, he was Ponyboy, we had fun just goofing off. The photo at the top is one of the best though it was hard to choose just one to show you.

Then I had this wonderful suggestion – to go into the basement for a really gritty, very masculine look for the next set of photos. As we were lugging the equipment down a couple flights of stairs and around all the boxes stored down there, Brad looks at me and says, with sarcasm “I asked for a GOOD suggestion, not a DIFFICULT one.” Heehee. But I was right! They look awesome!
