It is Just a Matter of Perspective!

We have been in Miami for the last several days for the Christmas Holiday. When Helen and Sydney arrived it was a little chilly (for Miami). Sydney was dying to go swimming but it was very cool and a couple of days it was cloudy and even rained some. The day after Christmas it was bright and sunny but still cool. Sydney started asking can I go swimming in the morning so finally around noon I said ok but you are going to freeze. It was about 73 degrees and windy but she was determined. As you can imagine the water was quite cool from being cloudy and cool. Well she jumped in and started swimming I asked her if it was cold but she said it was fine even though she was covered in goose bumps. She had a blast diving, swimming and splashing her grandparents dog Taffy. Then she wanted me to toss her into the pool needless to say I got wet!P1070421

She swam for a couple of hours then finally got out. As I sat there watching her I thought how easy it is (as we mature?) to lose that ability to take the plunge and experience all that life has to offer. From her perspective the pleasure that she got from swimming was much greater than the slight discomfort of being a little cool.

Lacrosse Players Love Getting Their Picture Taken

I’m completely joking in the title of this post. I am not so sure that really active and athletic guys like spending a beautiful afternoon standing around and posing for the camera, but nonetheless Sam was very cooperative with us and let us pick on him for not just one day but TWO!

Sam came in to do his senior photographs with his mom and sister on a gorgeous afternoon. The weather was just perfect, it was a little humid because of all the rain we have been having for the past couple weeks, but nonetheless the sun was shining! I was glad the weather was nice, outside photographs are great for guys, especially Sam because he is big into lacrosse and sports.  We quickly figured out outfits and got started. We did some more formal things upstairs and some cool black and whites and then moved on to outside.

Sam did great with listening to direction from Brad. I think he might actually have had fun getting his photograph taken! We did a couple things in some really soft yellows in and around the studio and on Oak Street. When he came back to finish up his formal sitting because he had forgotten a tie the first day, Brad wanted to do more than just the formal and he had a great blue checkered shirt in his car. We were like ‘go get it!!!’ and we ended the session with some cool photos on the stairs outside. Very GQ.

We had a blast photographing Sam and I wish him the best with his lacrosse and the schools he is applying to, which all seem to be located up North.  We know that his mom will enjoy the photographs, since he is headed a long way from home for school. He will definitely need a warm jacket, or two!

The ULTIMATE Session

Talk about an Ultimate session. Taylor came in with her mom a couple of weeks ago to start her session, one of the first sessions I helped Brad do. It couldn’t have been more fun and easy going! Taylor and her mom were so sweet and fun to hang around with.

Due to all the rain, the busy life of a graduating senior and scheduling conflicts we just now finished up all her photographs and have been dying to share them with you all. So, 2 months, 3 appointments and some 1000 photographs later we have a few of the selected photos that will go into Taylor’s book, which I can’t wait to start working on!

Taylor had a lot of variety in all the different outfits that she brought, which is perfect for a senior session. Taylor brought cute dresses, jackets, a magenta colored scarf, boots, turtlenecks galore—just the kind of variety we love here at Cansler Photography. She also brought her prom dress which was a white  Grecian goddess-like dress, it was gorgeous! So after we decided on all the different outfits we wanted to do we quickly got started!Helton9361

We started upstairs and did some really cute black and whites, but then we wanted to head outside because it was a gorgeous day out. We went over to Coolidge Park and did some really fun stuff by the river, around some flowers and by a really neat sculpture. Taylor did a great job, even when bugs were attacking her, about listening to direction and being patient with us while we fussed over her hair and things, making sure everything was PERFECT. We were rushing all around the park, people probably thought we were crazy, but it didn’t matter to us because we were having a blast.Helton9382The second session that we did with Taylor we headed over to the Chattanooga ChooChoo, which I had never been to, it was really neat! We found the coolest train that was bright red and Brad thought that it would be just perfect for the outfit she had on. It was! We got some really amazing photos at the train. I think that Taylor and her mom were pretty pleased with them as much as we were.Helton2609Out of all the different outfits and sessions we did with Taylor, by far my favorite one was the very last one that we did, go figure! We met up with Taylor early one morning and headed over to the faculty club with her  in her beautiful white prom dress. The lighting and setting were just perfect for the dress. They really turned out phenomenal.Helton4647

When  Taylor and her mom looked at the photographs they LOVED them as much as we did. It was so much fun working with them and creating some really memorable photos. I wish Taylor the best of luck in all the different schools she is looking at and applying to! Enjoy the rest of your senior year, it already seems to be flying by!
