Back to the Tracks

Susannah was our senior rep at Boyd Buchanan School. When we did her photographs, one of my (many) favorites, was an image that I took in front of a train. So I asked her if she would come back and let me redo the photograph with new lighting and my new high resolution camera. I wanted the image for a project I am working on. As always, Susannah was a great sport and even though it was freezing cold the day we did the photographs, she faked looking warm. She started off with tights on, which helped a little in staying warm; also, we kept putting her coat back on in between shots. One advantage to it being cold was that she didn’t have as large an audience as the last time.

I am such a lucky guy having wonderful clients to work with.  Of course, it helps that they are beautiful too, and of course that just makes me look good.

Fun With Matt

It has taken a while and we finally were able to schedule Matt’s session. Mom and Dad had purchased a gift certificate at the St. Peter’s School Auction and we were having a hard time coordinating our schedules to actually do the portraits. The day arrived brisk and cool but very nice. Matt came in and proceeded to enjoy teasing my assistant. They got into a tickle competition, then more of a wrestling match and finally a demonstration of various holds. I was busy talking with mom and deciding on clothes and location to match the clothes.

All to soon, for Matt, we were ready to change clothes and start photographs. With a promise to him of more fun to come we went and did several beautifully classic images outside. Mom had said originally that she wanted the dramatic B&W’s that I am known for. It was a nice day so we decided to start outside with the preppy casual look. Matt was looking forward to torturing (just kidding) my assistant some more so he was super cooperative and we were done quickly.

We then went inside to do the portraits that had been the original plan. Well after some more of the tickling and wrestling we settled down to creating some timeless B&W’s.

Here again he did great and we were done fast.  At the last minute we included mom in a few images so she could surprise Dad for Christmas. What a wonderful present for Dad and a fabulous memory for Matt.

When mom came in to view the images she changed her mind and chose a color outdoor image for her main portrait. This happens all the time; we are so sure of what we want until we see something else we want more. Of course the B&W’s were great and she got some of those but the “over the mantel” piece ended up being one of  the first color images we took.

Blast From the Past

Christie’s mom called and said she wanted a new photograph of her daughter and her husband. The phone call brought back memories; it seems like yesterday when I had met Christie 20 years ago.  She was a little girl helping out her dad in his store. Over the years we have seen her every now and then so it was great to see her and meet her husband. They were just going to be here a couple of days so we fit them in after another scheduled session. Well we ran late (what else is new) with our prior senior session (all those changes of clothes take time).

Christie and Tim were very patient and when we finally started photographs the lighting was perfect. We were just doing one clothing change to fill a hole on her mom’s wall so the session went quickly. First we took some images at the studio and then we jumped in the car to go to a location I had driven by earlier. Those of you who know me realize how hard it is for me to do just one thing! The extra effort and time was worth it because the additional location turn out beautiful.

The wonderful part of this job is to be able to see old friends and catch up on what is happening in their life and while we are doing  that, create some beautiful images.
