The Two Faces of Sydney

The last week of school my daughters 3rd grade class in conjunction with the 2nd graders put on a play at her school. The play they did was Disney’s 101 Dalmations. Sydney was chosen to play Cruella. At first she wasn’t sure she wanted to be mean old Cruella but she decided to do it anyway. Of course her dad (me) teased her about it being the perfect part for her to play. Her response was the typical one you get from a 9 yr old, Oh Dad!!! and a major rolling of the eyes. She did a great job learning her lines and maintaining a British accent during the play. (She also learned everyone else’s lines too.) When it came time for the final bows she loved all the applause she received and the grin stretched from ear to ear. I was a little worried that her mouth might split for a few minutes.

This past weekend she had her dance recital so a few minutes before she had to be at the Tivoli she and her mom came by the studio and I took a couple of images of her in her dance costume.

Just thought I would share a couple of images of both costumes and faces.

It is hard to believe that she is looking so grown up. I hadn’t seen her for a while. It figures your quick grab pictures look great.

We are always looking for a way to add more variety to our photography. In talking with some of our seniors about what they like (as opposed to their mom) they want to do more fashion themed photographs.  Over the years we have developed a reputation for doing classic consistantly beautiful portraits. I have been wanting to do something more edgy and non traditional  in addition to the classics.

So!!! Yesterday we had someone that had to reschedule for today, after work I called my assistant Laura at home and told her show up with some clothes tomorrow. She said something smart alecky about the massive notice. Anyway she showed up with a several outfits and we played for a couple of hours.

This is the style of images that we are adding to our senior mix. More dramatic lighting, more flair, and always  interesting. We are looking forward to being challenged to do something a little more funky for our seniors who want to add this to the classic pretty images we always do.

Just wanted to share some of the images we created today.

European Tour

Elizabeth came to us through a recommendation from a former senior client of ours Susannah Warren. We love that! Because Elizabeth and her mother were familiar with our work and the kinds of images we create, the consultation was full of ideas. How about her hair up? Or straight? Do you ever wear it straight? We’re going outside so maybe shorts? Don’t forget a coat or jacket! Yes, its summer but you don’t want everything sleeveless. Accessories, accessories, accessories! And even with all that they still managed to surprise us. On the day of Elizabeth’s shoot her mother walks me to the car and in the back is a zebra patterned bench! Quiet Elizabeth likes LOUD patterns!

As soon as we saw this flamenco inspired dress and the red flower we knew that the zebra bench was the perfect setting. She could be a senorita in an apartment in Madrid! She’s got the curls, the lovely tan, and the right attitude! And moving further on our tour of Europe…. here she sits in a café in France, or maybe Italy. This is one of my favorites. Every time I’ve seen her Elizabeth has been in a cute top and shorts. To me this is her. I love this session! Tell us what YOU think!“I knew that Brad Cansler took amazing pictures.  He and Laura made my experience a lot of fun.  They made me laugh the whole time and they made me feel comfortable.  They spent a lot of time with me, making sure that everything was just right.  I loved every second of having my picture taken and then going back to look at them.  If you want to have fun while getting your pictures taken and also love the finished product, I would definitely recommend Cansler Photography.”

I’ve been looking around canslerblog.com and really am impressed by the amazing content material here. I work the nightshift at my job and it really gets boring. I have been coming right here for the past couple nights and reading. I just wanted to let you know that I have been enjoying what I’ve seen and I look forward to reading more.
